This is Mrs. Owen's twenty-third year in education. Prior to that, she worked for Fifth Third Bank and for two steel tubing corporations. Mrs. Owen started her educational career at Washington Court House as a social studies teacher. After teaching for three years, she went back to school to pursue her passion, school counseling. She has been a school counselor at Alexander Local Schools in Athens County, General Sherman Junior High in Lancaster, and now Ridgeview STEM Junior High. Mrs. Owen lives with her husband, two kids, and her dog in Carroll. They are huge Blue Jackets and Ohio State fans! Camping is also a passion of theirs.
Mrs. Owen has served as president of the Ohio School Counselor Association and has served on that organization's board of directors and/or consulted for 17 years. She was chosen by the Ohio School Counselor Association to be School Counselor of the Year 2015 and then was selected as one of the top five school counselors of the year in 2016 by the American School Counselor Association, affording her the honor of visiting the White House and meeting and being recognized by the then first lady, Michelle Obama.
Mrs. Owen has served on both of the Ohio Department of Education's writing committees for the development of state standards for school counselors and for the evaluation system for school counselors. In partnership with the United Way, Mrs. Owen was part of the counseling team that started the WISE program. In addition, she and her team are very excited to announce that they received the RE-RAMP, a designation from the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) for our comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program, which aligns with the ASCA National Model. WeRidgeview STEM Junior High is one of only four schools in Ohio with the RAMP designation and the first to Re-RAMP.
