Pickerington High School Central’s Matt Young Named Ohio Art Educator of the Year by the Ohio Art Education Association
May 8, 2025, Pickerington, OH - Pickerington Local Schools is proud to announce that Matt Young, Visual Art Education Teacher at Pickerington High School Central, has been named the Ohio Art Educator of the Year by the Ohio Art Education Association (OAEA).
This prestigious lifetime achievement award recognizes educators who have made a lasting impact on students, developed innovative curricula, and shaped arts education at state and national levels. Young will receive the award this November at the OAEA Conference in Columbus, where fellow educators and advocates will gather to celebrate excellence in arts education.
A Legacy of Leadership & Dedication
With 30 years of experience in the classroom, Young has cultivated an inclusive and creative learning environment that empowers students to express themselves through art. His philosophy centers on art as a universal language, fostering confidence, empathy, and critical thinking in students.
Beyond his classroom, Young has made significant contributions to arts education statewide and nationally, serving as:
- President of the Ohio Art Education Association
- An advocate with the Ohio Department of Education, helping shape State Arts Standards
- A board member-elect for the National Art Education Association, beginning in 2026
