Letter From the Principal
Welcome Sycamore Creek Elementary families!
I am super excited about this year as the principal of Sycamore Creek Elementary. I am honored to be a part of this wonderful community.
I promise to do my very best to keep in contact with families and communicate important information in a timely manner. It will be very important that your contact information is correct on Infinite Campus as emails will be the most efficient and effective way to communicate with all families at one time. Each week a parent newsletter will be sent via email, as well as any other communication that must happen between newsletters.
Our focus on positive character, leadership and accountability are the foundation of all that happens at Sycamore Creek Elementary. Our foundation is built on Hard work, Enthusiasm, Responsibility and Organization of our students, staff and families. During these challenging times, it will be even more crucial that students, staff, and families maintain high levels of respect and work to build positive relationships so that we are all working together to make this year successful academically while at the same time and, most importantly, keeping all members of our community healthy and safe.
Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to working with you and your child to help all of our students reach their full potential and have a successful school year.
- Pamela Bertke, Principal

Drop Off/Pick Up

Student Arrival General Info
Student morning drop-off
Please read the following instructions carefully as our goal is always to have students arrive safely and expeditiously.
Students should not arrive at school prior to 9:05 a.m., as there is no adult supervision before that time. This includes the playground area. Please do NOT drop your child off to let them play and wait for the doors to open. There is NO ADULT SUPERVISION in the playground before school begins.
-
Student Arrival By Car
Parent drop-off
- Students should let themselves out of the vehicle once it is stopped.
- Please do not wait for the staff to open the car door for your child as this creates a longer drop off time for everyone.
- Staff are there to assist the flow of traffic.
- When entering the parking lot from Sycamore Creek Street, please follow the directional arrows to “snake” through the parking lot.
- This prevents cars from lining up on the street and disrupting the flow of traffic in the neighborhood.
- When you get to the front of the building, form a line along the curb.
- The first car should be pulled up to the sign that says “Student Drop Off."
- Parents must stay in the car.
- The FIRE LANE is not space to park and go into the building, but is designed for the driver to pull up, drop off the student and pull away.
- At no time should a parent pull into the striped line area next to the handicap spaces and leave their car.
- This is a no parking zone and it will affect the flow of traffic.
- Parking and leaving your car is only allowed if you are in a traditional parking space.
- In the morning, there will be adults supervising children getting out of the cars.
- Students should let themselves out of the vehicle once it is stopped.
-
Riding Your Bike to School
If a student is riding a bike to school, the bike should be parked in our bike rack. We do not have locks, but you may certainly provide your own.
-
Student Arrival By Bus
- The bus drop-off is at the hard-surfaced playground area off Fairfield Street.
- This area is for buses only. No parent drop-offs!
- Students will remain on the bus until 9:05 a.m., at which time they will enter the building through the POD doors.
- Adults will be on duty directing them to the appropriate destination.
- After the buses are unloaded and have departed, the gates to that area will be closed and locked.
- Do not drive in the playground parking lot while students are present.
-
Mid-Day Kindergarten Dismissal/Arrival
Kindergarten release and drop-off (AM dismissal, PM drop-off)
Mid-day, buses will load at the front of the building in the “student drop off” lane.
- Please permit the buses and daycare vans to pull into the lane before parents pick up.
- This will permit us to safely get as many students into vehicles as quickly as possible.
Morning students will be dismissed out of the main school doors and will be accompanied to the buses by staff.
- Walkers and bike riders will be the last to be dismissed.
- If you are waiting for a walker or bike rider, please stand in the grass area by the bike racks.
- Morning kindergarten dismissal is at 12:15 p.m.. Please do not arrive prior to 12:05 p.m. for pick-up.
Those kindergarten students arriving at school for afternoon kindergarten will be dropped off at the main door and wait for staff to proceed into the building to their rooms.
- Staff members will be outside to escort them.
- After the buses and daycare vans unload, parents may pull into the “student drop-off” lane and proceed to drop off students.
- Afternoon kindergarten students may be dropped off no earlier than 12:55 p.m.
Afternoon students' dismissal is the same as Grade 1-4 students, 4:05pm.
-
Student Dismissal General Info
One of the greatest challenges we face daily is ensuring that each student gets dismissed in a timely and safe manner.
- Please limit the changes in your student’s dismissal to emergencies or absolute necessities. This ensures your student knows how they are consistently getting home and dismissal transitions smoothly for all.
- If it is necessary to change how your student will be getting home, please notify the school office by 3 p.m. to ensure the message gets to your student and teacher in a timely manner.
- If a permanent change in dismissal is necessary, please send in a letter stating the change to the school office so it may be kept on file.
-
Student Dismissal to Bus
Bus
Bus pick-up is on the hard-surfaced playground where students will be supervised as they board the buses.
- Parents cannot pick up students at anytime from the playground area.
- It is important that all students are accounted for before buses are dismissed from school.
-
Student Dismissal to Car
By car
- When picking up students after school, parents should pull into the front parking lot and follow the arrows to snake through the parking lot.
- The cars should be lined up along the curb with the first car pulled up to the “student drop off” sign.
- Please do not arrive prior to 3:45 p.m. as the area in front of the building also serves as our fire lane.
- Adults will be on duty outside in the car area and inside the cafeteria where students will be waiting.
- As cars pull up, you will be asked whom you are picking up or you will have a sign to display in your front window.
- We will “radio” for your child to come to your car.
- If a staff member does not know you, you may be asked to show your ID.
- Only those individuals listed on dismissal forms will be allowed to pick up a student unless notified by the office.
- Once the children are safely in the car, the next cars will pull up and the process will continue.
Again, we ask that you have patience as we get to know all the students and parents and their schedules.
-
Student Dismissal to Day Care
Day care
Day care students will be assembled in our first grade hallway and will be escorted to the daycare vehicles waiting in the pick-up space on the hard surfaced playground area.
-
Student Dismissal: Unaccompanied Walkers/Bike Riders
Walkers and bike riders that are permitted to leave the building unaccompanied
- Walkers and bike riders will be dismissed along with the staff member(s) on duty to accompany the children to the crosswalks in front of the building.
- It is important that each student is accounted for on dismissal before we release the children who will be walking and riding their bikes unaccompanied by a parent or caregiver.
-
Student Dismissal: Walkers/Bike Riders Picked Up By Caregiver
Walkers and bike riders picked up by a parent/caregiver
- Students walking home with their parents or guardians will be picked up at the door at the cafeteria entrance, labeled “S."
- Please line up in an orderly fashion against the building's wall and wait until school personnel dismiss your child to you.
- Only those individuals listed on dismissal forms will be allowed to pick up students unless notified by the office.
- We want to make certain all students are released to the appropriate parties.
