What is PoPP?
Parents on Positivity Patrol (PoPP) is an extraordinary program that harnesses the power of parent volunteers within our schools. We recognize the pivotal role parents play in modern education – they are invaluable resources for teachers and a rock-solid support system for our entire school community. Moreover, their involvement demonstrates to their children and others that school is a place of immense importance, worthy of time and effort.
At Pickerington Schools, we deeply value the partnership between parents, families, and our educational institutions. Together, we form a strong and interconnected community. PoPP has been carefully designed to engage parents directly within the schools their children attend, fostering a sense of belonging and collective responsibility.
The fundamental purpose of PoPP is to ensure that our school buildings are infused with the presence of caring and committed adults. PoPP volunteers are passionate about spreading positivity and building meaningful relationships with both students and staff. Through their active involvement, they create an environment where everyone feels supported and encouraged to thrive.
Join PoPP today and be a part of this extraordinary initiative that brings parents closer to their children's educational journey. Together, let's cultivate a culture of positivity, collaboration, and success within Pickerington Schools. We believe that by working hand in hand, we can empower our students to reach their fullest potential.

What's it like to be a PoPP volunteer?
A typical day for a Parents on Positivity Patrol (PoPP) volunteer begins with signing in at the main office and collecting their PoPP vest and walkie-talkie. Once equipped, they proceed to the designated patrol area designated by the school administration. The primary goal of PoPP is to create a positive atmosphere within the building, radiating warmth through friendly smiles and welcoming greetings. It's important to note that PoPP volunteers are not disciplinarians.
To ensure effective coverage, PoPPs work in pairs, allowing them to monitor various areas such as halls, restrooms, and the cafeteria. We aim to recruit a diverse group of at least 100 PoPP volunteers, enabling us to cater to the varying needs of our schools. The specific hours of volunteering depend on both the school's requirements and the availability of the parents. For instance, some parents may only be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon, while others may have the flexibility to volunteer throughout the entire day.
Join our PoPP team today and make a difference in the lives of our students. Together, we can create a nurturing environment that fosters positivity and supports the growth and success of every child.

The impact of having an additional positive adult presence in our schools through PoPP is truly remarkable. According to Panorama survey data, students attending schools with PoPP volunteers experience an enhanced sense of belonging, fostering an environment where they can thrive academically and emotionally.
Extensive research conducted by scholars such as Karen Mapp from Harvard and Joyce Epstein from Johns Hopkins University further validates the profound benefits of parental involvement. Students whose parents actively volunteer in the school demonstrate improved academic performance, achieving higher grades and excelling on tests. Moreover, their behavior is exemplary, exhibiting better attendance records and a higher likelihood of graduating and pursuing further education.
By solidifying the ecosystem of support for our students, the PoPP program not only strengthens relationships between parents, students, and staff but also enhances overall engagement. The profound impact of these relationships extends beyond the classroom, positively shaping the lives of our students and reinforcing their commitment to lifelong learning.
Join PoPP today and become an essential part of this transformative program that empowers our students to reach new heights of success. Together, we will continue to build an inclusive and supportive educational community, where every child can thrive and achieve their dreams.
