Since 2015, social work interns have provided key support for Pickerington Schools' students, staff, and families. Dr. Erica Magier currently coordinates our social work program in partnership with The Ohio State University, Ohio University, and Ohio Dominican University. Social work interns are placed in individual schools and under the supervision of current social workers and school counselors, interns apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom in real-world settings. Interns receive specialized on-site training and professional development to support their learning and practice.
Interns provide an array of services and support within Pickerington Schools. Examples include:
- Providing support to students in our Stress Management and Resiliency Training (SMART) Labs.
- Facilitating our substance intervention program.
- Delivering small group and classroom lessons focused on different Social Emotional Learning topics.
- Implementing various school- and district-wide initiatives and campaigns.
